Living in a Magazine World

032c Workshop is pleased to present “Living in a Magazine World,” a group show curated by Claire Koron Elat. Presented in Paris during Paris Fashion Week with works by Jon Rafman, DIS, Bernadette Corporation, Ilya Lipkin, Rafik Greiss, Azize Ferizi, Thomas Jeppe, Jerald Cooper, Tony Cokes, Magazine.Capital, and Christophe De Rohan Chabot.

The purchase of a magazine has more to do with buying an idea than a physical product. As archival entities, magazines document pasts, presents, and futures while drawing on former archives that lead to the production of new archives (which are somewhat novel, but perhaps also “nothing new”). Utilizing materials that are factual and fictive, magazines act as spaces for imagination that are located in the real world but excavate constructed spaces that do not claim to be utopian but more ideal than the universe they are based on. Inspired by Zoot Woman’s first studio album Living in a Magazine, the show investigates how traditional notions of the editorial landscape could be transcended while thinking towards what the future of magazines could and inevitably will look like.
