Gloved Hands & Digitized Countertops: A Meditation on Homecare Aesthetics
Archival Aesthetics: Environment and Object is an image-based investigative project by Reese Riley. Envisioned as a twelve-part series, each epoch consists of a categorical Facebook group that aims to disentangle a sphere of meaning in order to find all that is intrinsic to it. Along with Riley, Gergő Kovács, David Marinos, and Kyle Joseph have put together a special commission of images for 032c collaged from the group Homecare Aesthetics.
As Riley explains:
“Homecare Aesthetics: Environment and Object is a pool of hyperreal interiors; here bell peppers are collaged over 3D renderings of austere kitchens. The blemishes of these vegetables are exalted against the digitized countertops, hereby finding “kitchen-ness” in this chasm between wild growth and manufactured planes. PVC pipes jet outwards from gradients of blue and flaxen hues while gloved hands sit as monuments next to soapy tiles. If we are going to call certain experiences on the Internet “aesthetic,” we must first interrogate the structure of those experiences.”
